Welcome

Welcome to the Alternatives for Simple Living website.

Alternatives is a non-profit organization that equips people of faith to challenge consumerism, live justly and create meaningful celebrations

Alternatives started in 1973 to promote an alternative biblical vision of life based on voluntary simplicity, stewardship of creation, and encouraging meaningful celebrations that reflect conscientious earth friendly ways of living.

Throughout our 35-year history, we have led the movement to live more simply and faithfully. We have developed many different resources, published an annual Advent and Christmas magazine ("Whose Birthday Is It, Anyway?"), led numerous workshops, and reached countless people with the message of simple living.

By becoming a Member you can help us challenge the way our consumer society usurps faith traditions, exploits people, and damages the environment. With your help, more and more people can experience the joy that comes from living in ways that honor God's Creation.

Earth Day Resource
A New Resource from Alternatives - Monday, February 15, 2010

An exciting new resource from Alternatives for Simple Living which asks what could be the most important faith question in the twenty first century: Whose Planet Is It, Anyway?  In the age of decision about climate change, internationally known authors from Christianity and other world religions, weight in on what their tradtions teach about the urgent need to care for Creation.

Whose Planet Is it, Anyway? is a question that brings earth's diverse faith traditions together in a united stance to adderess climate change, aid those most affected by climate change, and ground the faithful more deeply in their own traditions.

Whose Planet Is It, Anyway? includes worship resources, prayers in the tradition of Celtic spirituality, sermon starters, a study guide, an introduction to the Game of Choice, and a Twelve Step Program for Energy Addicts.
